What We Do—

Overview

The Arc of Jackson County has carried out the mission of supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as their parents and siblings, for more than 55 years.

The primary goal of this program is to provide opportunities for the people we support to access their community and form the relationships that add meaning to their lives.  We provide support for people as they seek employment, volunteerism, independent living and other opportunities that assist people with disabilities to develop and use life skills to attain their life aspirations.

Mission:

Our mission is to empower individuals with intellectual disabilities to live, work, worship, and recreate more fully within their own communities. We are an employment first agency who supports individuals to become valuable people within their communities. We assist in connecting community, ideas, and resources to create self-reliance. We promote and protect the rights of people with intellectual disabilities and actively support their full inclusion and participation in their community throughout their lifetime. We provide training to assist people in learning to become more independent in their daily lives.

Vision:

The essence of our organization exists in our mission – which is one of empowerment and inclusiveness for the people with intellectual disabilities we serve.   We are dedicated to raising awareness of the need for an array of opportunities through which to learn and build the talents of people with intellectual disabilities.  We work with individuals to enhance their skills and with the community to offer opportunities that assist people with disabilities to develop and use life skills and attain their life aspirations. We see our future as bright and powerful as we go forward!
